How Snapchat follower counts work
Snapchat calls followers subscribers. Only public profiles have them: creators, brands and anyone who turned on a public profile. A normal account has friends instead, and nobody else can see how many.
The published figure comes from the public Snapchat profile. Our recorded profiles have shown rounded steps and periods without a visible change; those observations do not guarantee the same rounding or update schedule for every account. Where we have enough history, the moving number is our labelled estimate at the account's recent pace, with the published figure and our check time underneath. Read the historical observations in why your Snapchat follower count is not updating.
Want a number that moves by the second? Spotlight views do: the live Spotlight view counter reads them from Snapchat every few seconds.
How often we check
We aim to check profiles people have open and the biggest accounts in the list every 5 minutes, and the rest of the list every 15 minutes. Fetch failures or upstream delays can leave an older reading on screen; its checked time remains visible.
Each profile shows when we last checked it and when we last saw the number change. The "Changes we saw" chart keeps one value per day. Steps of 100 and gaps between changes are observations from the profiles we have checked, not a rounding rule or update schedule guaranteed for every Snapchat account.
When a profile shows a live estimate, that number follows the pace of its recent published figures and eases into a new reading. It is a modelled estimate, not an exact live subscriber count from Snapchat. The published figure we read stays underneath, with our check time.
Put it on your stream or website
Open a profile and use Embed code for a small widget on a website, or OBS link for a browser source. Both pick up new numbers by themselves and never show ads.
