What the checker tells you

Most games on Steam answer a short status request from anyone: the server name, the map, how many players are on and how many slots there are, the game version and whether it needs a password. The checker sends that one request to the address you type and shows the answer. If the server does not answer within a few seconds, it is offline, restarting, or blocked by a firewall.

Game port or query port

Many games answer on a different port than the one players join on. You don't need to know which: paste the address you connect with and we ask Steam which servers run on that IP and where their query port is. Leave out the port and we list every Steam server we find on that address.

What we keep

Results stay in memory for up to a minute, and lookups (the address behind a host name, Steam's list of the servers on an IP) for up to an hour, so a busy server isn't asked the same thing twice. Like any page view on this site, a check also shows up in our server log, which we delete after 7 days, and in our visitor stats.
