How this countdown works

The countdown runs to midnight at the start of 31 October in your own time zone. Trick-or-treating starts in the evening, so on the day itself the page simply says it is Halloween.

Halloween is always on 31 October, the evening before All Saints' Day. In 2026 it falls on a Saturday, which decides whether the parties land on a weekend. Some towns move trick-or-treating to a nearby Saturday; the date itself never moves.
