How this countdown works

The clock counts down to midnight at the start of 25 December where you are, so it hits zero when Christmas Day begins on your own clock. On the day the page says so, and the next morning it moves on to next year.

Christmas is on 25 December every year, so only the weekday changes: in 2026 it is a Friday. Sleeps are the nights left, so go to bed on Christmas Eve and that is the last one.

Orthodox churches that keep the Julian calendar celebrate on 7 January, and in the UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia 26 December is a holiday too, as Boxing Day or St Stephen's Day.
