Where the Telegram numbers come from

Every public channel and group has a preview page at t.me/username. It shows the name, photo and subscriber count to anyone, even without a Telegram account. Our server reads that page once a minute and passes the number to this counter. For groups the preview also shows how many members are online right now, so you get that as a second number.

How accurate is it?

It's the exact number Telegram prints on the preview page, not an estimate or a rounded figure. Because we only read it once every 60 seconds, a channel that is growing fast jumps a few subscribers at a time instead of one by one.

Private channels and groups

Private channels (the ones you join through a t.me/+ invite link) don't have a public preview page, so nobody outside can read their count, us included. A channel needs a public @username for this to work.

Under Share and embed you'll find a link to this exact counter, iframe code for a website and a URL for an OBS browser source. The embed shows the channel photo, name and live count, and keeps itself up to date.

FAQ

Do I need a Telegram account to use this?

No. Everything comes from Telegram's public preview pages, so there's nothing to log in to and no bot to add.

Why can't it find my channel?

Make sure the channel is public and that you entered the username, not the display name. The username is the part after t.me/, for example durov in t.me/durov.

What's the difference between channels and groups here?

Channels show subscribers. Groups show members, plus how many of them are online, which appears as a second number.

How often does the count update?

Once a minute. That matches how long our server keeps each reading from Telegram.

Can I track a Telegram bot?

Not directly. Bots don't show a user count on their public page. You can track the channel or group that goes with the bot.
