How many people play Fortnite right now?
The number at the top is how many people are connected to Fortnite, counted by Epic in 10 minute steps. That covers everyone, whatever they are playing: Battle Royale, Reload, LEGO Fortnite, Festival, a creator's island, or just sitting in the lobby. Over the last 7 days it moved between 731,302 and 2,945,793 players online (the peak of each hour), highest in the European and American evening, and it jumps for season launches and live events.
Where the numbers come from
Epic runs a public Fortnite Data API with the total number of players and a number for every public island. We read it every 10 minutes and keep our own history, because Epic only keeps the last 7 days. We have been recording since 19 Sep 2026, and the highest total we have seen so far is 2,945,793 on 19 Sep 2026.
Each value is the highest count within its 10 minutes, and a new one shows up 10 to 20 minutes after the fact. So the count on this page is always a little behind. Any Fortnite counter that ticks up every second is making the in-between numbers up.
Online versus in a match
Online is everyone with Fortnite open and connected. In a match is the part of them that was actually in a game at that moment, so it leaves out people in the lobby, in the item shop or waiting for their squad. The gap between the two is usually around a third of all players.
Player counts for Fortnite islands and maps
Every public island built in Fortnite Creative or UEFN has its own count, in the same 10 minute steps. Search for one above by name or code to see its players right now, its 24 hour and 7 day chart and Epic's daily numbers for plays and unique players. Epic leaves the count out when fewer than 5 people played an island in those 10 minutes.
There is no official "most played" list, so ours is built from the top 40 of each of Epic's 13 genre rankings plus the islands people look up here. The busiest 60 are checked every 10 minutes and the rest every few hours. It is not every island in the game: Epic's genre rankings come out about half a day late, so an island that took off in the last few hours can be missing until the next one.
