How Many Players Does a FiveM Server Really Get?
We read the public FiveM server list every 5 minutes. At 22:40 UTC on 26 September 2026 it held 33,709 servers and 207,284 players. Here is how those players spread over the servers, and what that means for a server of your own.
Short version: three servers in four were empty, the typical server with anyone on had 2 players, and the 406 servers with 128 or more players held 62.8% of everyone. Every number below comes from that one snapshot, except the hourly chart and the peak versus average section, which use our history.

Most servers are empty
Of the 33,709 servers in the list, 25,358 (75.2%) had nobody on. Many are test servers, servers that only open in the evening, or projects that never got going. Of the 8,351 that did have players, half had 2 or fewer, and nine in ten had 54 or fewer.

| Players on the server | Servers | Players |
|---|---|---|
| Empty | 25,358 | 0 |
| 1 to 9 | 6,354 | 13,366 |
| 10 to 31 | 843 | 15,178 |
| 32 to 63 | 423 | 19,350 |
| 64 to 127 | 325 | 29,216 |

| 256 to 511 | 118 | 40,994 |
| 512 or more | 56 | 47,436 |
The small servers are many, but they hold few players: the 6,354 servers with 1 to 9 players had 6.4% of all players between them. The picture flips at the top.
What it takes to reach the top 100
The biggest server had 1,836 players. From there the numbers fall fast. This is how many players the server at each rank had in the same snapshot:
| Rank | Players |
|---|---|
| #1 | 1,836 |
| #10 | 1,173 |
| #50 | 543 |
| #100 | 352 |
| #250 | 196 |
| #500 | 102 |
| #1,000 | 41 |
| #2,000 | 9 |
| #5,000 | 1 |
The top 10 servers had 6.8% of all players, the top 100 had 31.9% and the top 1,000 had 83.6%. So about 41 players at the same time is enough to be one of the thousand busiest FiveM servers in the world, and a steady 352 puts you in the top 100.
Slots are not players
The slot count in the list is the sv_maxclients setting, the most players a server lets in. It says what the owner set, not how many people come. The most common value is 48, the number in the sample server.cfg from FiveM's own setup guide: 9,368 servers still use it.
| Slots | Servers | With players | Typical players* | Busiest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 48 | 9,368 | 1,610 | 1 | 41 |
| 64 | 3,815 | 1,284 | 3 | 63 |
| 128 | 1,746 | 891 | 6 | 102 |
| 32 | 960 | 124 | 1 | 16 |
| 2,048 | 481 | 293 | 57 | 1,836 |
| 1,024 | 89 | 60 | 48 | 660 |
| 512 | 43 | 29 | 45 | 259 |
| 256 | 67 | 38 | 43 | 167 |
* The median among servers of that size that had at least one player. At 22:40 UTC on 26 September 2026. The highest setting in the list is 2,048 slots. Of the 481 servers with 2,048 slots, 293 had players, and the typical one had 57. Across all servers with anyone on, the median server was 8.2% full.

The average day is about half the peak
A server's player count is not one number. It climbs in the evening of its own country and empties overnight, and many roleplay servers restart at least once a day. We keep an hourly average for the busier servers, so we looked at every one that peaked at 50 players or more in the last 48 hours: 811 servers.
| Peak in 48 hours | Servers | Average, as share of peak | Quietest hour, as share of peak |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 to 99 | 188 | 41.1% | 2.5% |
| 100 to 249 | 327 | 47.3% | 7.8% |
| 250 to 499 | 176 | 46.2% | 7.1% |
| 500 to 999 | 80 | 50.8% | 8.6% |
| 1,000 or more | 40 | 51.2% | 10% |
The median server averaged 46.2% of its peak over those 48 hours, and its quietest hour was at 7.4%. In plain numbers: a server that shows 200 players at its busiest has about 92 on over a whole day. When you compare servers, or plan your own, compare peaks with peaks.

Averaged over the days we have, the busiest hour was 19:00 UTC with about 220,327 players and the quietest was 08:00 UTC with about 89,664, a swing of 2.5 times. The busiest hour is 21:00 in Paris and 16:00 in São Paulo; the quietest is 10:00 in Paris and 05:00 in São Paulo. Our post on how many people play FiveM splits the day curve by region.
Which languages the players speak

| Language | Players | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Portuguese | 45,639 | 22% |
| English | 35,575 | 17.2% |
| French | 19,901 | 9.6% |
| Arabic | 18,873 | 9.1% |
| Spanish | 12,396 | 6% |
| German | 12,205 | 5.9% |
| Thai | 10,413 | 5% |
| Turkish | 8,911 | 4.3% |
| Polish | 6,142 | 3% |
| Romanian | 5,884 | 2.8% |
Portuguese servers were the biggest group, ahead of English, and about nine in ten of their players were on servers set to Brazilian Portuguese. French and Arabic servers each had around a tenth of the players, more than German or Spanish ones. A language with many players also has many servers competing for them, so a big community is not an easy one.
What this means for your own server
- Plan slots for your peak, not your average. If friends and early players get you to 30 in the evening, 48 or 64 slots is plenty, and a day average near 15 is normal.
- Measure from the list, not the slot count. Other servers' slot counts say nothing about how busy they are; look at their player numbers at your own prime time.
- The bar for "big" is lower than it looks. 41 players at once is top 1,000, and 352 is top 100.
- Set your language. Players filter the server list by language, and a server that keeps the placeholder from the sample config does not tell them which one it speaks.
Where the numbers and rules come from
- Server snapshot: every server in the public cfx.re server list at 22:40 UTC on 26 September 2026, with players, slot count (sv_maxclients) and the language set by the owner, read by Livecounts.nl.
- Hourly totals and per-server hourly averages: the Livecounts.nl FiveM tracker, which reads the same list every 5 minutes, since 23 September 2026.
- The default of 48 slots: the sample server.cfg in "Setting Up a Vanilla FXServer" (docs.fivem.net/docs/server-manual/setting-up-a-server-vanilla/), checked 26 September 2026.
- Servers that hide themselves from the public list are not included, and neither is GTA Online itself.
